Sewage Cleanup & Sanitization

Category 2 and 3 biohazard sewage cleanup in Metro Atlanta. Full PPE, proper disposal, and thorough sanitization to protect your family.

What Is Sewage Cleanup?

Sewage backups and overflows are classified as Category 2 or 3 water damage — meaning the water contains biological contaminants that pose serious health risks. Our sewage cleanup process follows strict IICRC S500 protocols including full PPE, controlled demolition of contaminated porous materials, EPA-registered antimicrobial and sanitization treatments, and proper biohazard disposal. This is not a DIY situation.

When You Need It

Any time sewage, black water, or gray water enters your home. This includes toilet overflows, sewer line backups, septic tank failures, and floodwater that has mixed with sewage. Category 3 water requires professional handling — do not attempt to clean it yourself.

Our Process

01

Safety Assessment

We assess the contamination level, establish a safety perimeter, and identify all affected materials.

02

PPE & Containment

Full personal protective equipment and containment barriers are established before any work begins.

03

Contaminated Material Removal

All porous materials contacted by sewage (carpet, pad, drywall below the flood line) are removed and disposed of properly.

04

Cleaning & Sanitization

Remaining hard surfaces are cleaned, sanitized with EPA-registered products, and treated with antimicrobials.

05

Structural Drying & Verification

The area is dried to standard and verified clean through moisture readings and visual inspection.

Insurance Coverage

Sewage backup damage is often covered by homeowner insurance, but many policies require a specific sewage backup endorsement. Check your policy. We document the contamination level and cleanup thoroughly for your claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is sewage cleanup dangerous?

Yes. Sewage contains bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens that can cause serious illness. Never attempt to clean sewage damage yourself. Professional equipment, training, and PPE are required.

Will I need to replace my carpet?

Yes. Any carpet, carpet pad, or porous flooring material contacted by sewage (Category 3 water) must be removed and replaced. This is an IICRC standard, not optional.

How much drywall will need to be removed?

Drywall is removed to at least 12 inches above the visible water line. The exact amount depends on how high the sewage reached and how much moisture wicked up through the material.

How long does sewage cleanup take?

The initial cleanup and material removal typically takes 1-2 days. Structural drying and sanitization adds another 3-5 days. Total timeline is usually 5-7 days.
